The Song

What are the songs that get stuck in your head? For me, it's either a late 90's alternative rock anthem or a soul torturing song from Barney the Purple Dinosaur. I have range folks. I have learned as a person who lives their life with a song almost continually playing in my mind (I like to think it's like a Disney princess thing and not a therapy thing). I have learned that these songs cannot be stopped only replaced. I have to meditate and focus myself on a more beneficial and acceptable narrative when harmful and annoying melodies persist.

Don't think for a minute that the contrary thoughts to the Word of God or the nagging feeling of doubt will just be banished. They must be replaced. Return to the songbook of God's Word. Latch onto the verse that makes your heart sing the song of Hope. This is where lies will be replaced, and the good seed will be watered with the truth. Yes, this part is your responsibility, and the Holy Spirit will meet you there. He will sing only Truth over you, and that will be Life!

You want to go to battle? Then remember that your sword is made up of pages and filled with words of life and promises. Pull them out and let them be heard by your enemy. More importantly, they will be heard by you. We tend to believe our own voices more than any other. That is just how we work, so speak this new song out loud. Let it ring in the air around you. You will rejoice, and the enemy will flee faster then if you were singing Lambchop's "This Is The Song That Doesn't End!"

Psalm 57:5-11
Be exalted, O God, above the heavens;
let your glory be over all the earth.
They spread a net for my feet—
I was bowed down in distress.
They dug a pit in my path—
but they have fallen into it themselves.
My heart, O God, is steadfast,
my heart is steadfast;
I will sing and make music.
Awake, my soul!
Awake, harp and lyre!
I will awaken the dawn.
I will praise you, Lord, among the nations;
I will sing of you among the peoples.
For great is your love, reaching to the heavens;
your faithfulness reaches to the skies.
Be exalted, O God, above the heavens;
let your glory be over all the earth.
